seminar

Mind Fields - Working with all Senses is about creating a personal ‘field’ or series of reactions, inspired by the island of Lanzarote. Using our senses as a guide we will aim to develop our artistic responses and learn to associate particular artworks to a thought, feeling, sound, movement, or phenomenon. By this method we will be able to form a distinctionbetween the non-personal media images we find ourselves encountering in our daily life and the individual and unique work we will create during the course.

Returning to a world that requires our instincts; organic reactions that are produced through a feeling rather than research, we will trust our ‘senses’ to produce an honest reaction to
the environment, rather than affected by the media or our preconceptions.
We believe Lanzarote offers the best working conditions for Mind Fields for many reasons. One is due to its location; situated between the two cultural cradles of Europe and
Africa, set apart from a world dominated by images, news, media and computers. It has its own unique landscape with a natural and cultural environment suitable for working
and creating ideas in a more efficient and concentrated manner.

diversity through artistic responses

The importance of an artistic education lies in its ability to develop visual intelligence and creativity. We aim to inspire new ways of education and interaction for use with our students, colleagues and creative work.
By reshaping a simple exercise and loading it with formative, creative and artistic value we can encourage others and nurture a talent into growth. In our daily encounter of images (photos, newspapers, posters, logos, x-rays, traffic signs), we become over-saturated by and desensitized to visual information. It is important to find new inspiration within this and visualize our world beyond the media, exploring and learning via unconventional methods.
Using art’s generous methods for expression and our senses as a guide,
we can explore the infinite surfaces of Lanzarote. Our focus will remain on the
thought processes, the experience and the willingness to try therefore we do
not see it as essential to create a final product.
